Planning and Management of Bijon Theatre

Sayak with its larger involvement in multifarious theatrical activities imbibed the acute problem of a theatre hall on cheap rate specially at north Kolkata. This coupled with the enormous aspiration of the theatre lovers of North Kolkata, inspired Sayak to take a venture to build up a theatre hall for use of group theatres at a convenient rate.

Under the financial assistance of M/s Nataraj Enterprise, Bijon Thetare (Accommodation 516) was opened on 31st July’1979 at 5A, Raja Rajkrishna Street, Kolkata – 700 006 in the name of the father of Bengali progressive theatre     Bijon  Bhattacharya under active planning, execution and management of SAYAK.

Since inception, the theatre has been used by several group under the active supervision of Sayak. And now  from 2002 Samabay Prayas has been established with the help of other three  Group Theatre viz. Theatre Workshop, Sohan and Anya Theatre to look after Bijon Theatre.
